Bangladesh Chinmoy Krishna Das: These days, there is once again a huge uproar in India’s neighboring country Bangladesh. BJP supporters attending the rally in Kolkata carried ‘torches’ and raised slogans demanding Das’s release. A local BJP leader said, ‘We demand the immediate release of Das, whose only crime was that he had protested against the attacks on minority Hindus in parts of Bangladesh in the last few months. Earlier, Bangladesh Police had arrested Das, the leader of Hindu organization ‘Samilit Sanatani Jot’, from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday (November 25).
Das’s bail plea rejected
A Bangladesh court on Tuesday rejected Das’s bail plea and ordered him to be sent to jail. Meanwhile, the External Affairs Ministry also expressed concern over the attacks on minorities who were protesting peacefully against the arrest of Das. “We urge the Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities,” the ministry said. We appeal to ensure the protection of their right to assemble peacefully and freedom of expression.
Reacting sharply to the Indian Foreign Ministry’s statement, the Bangladesh Foreign Ministry in Dhaka said it was ‘baseless’ and contrary to the spirit of friendship between the two countries.
