‘I will return soon’, Sheikh Hasina attacks opponents, explains why she left Bangladesh

Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Statement: Sheikh Hasina, who was ousted from the post of Prime Minister of Bangladesh, reacted to the situation there about a week after leaving the country. Sheikh Hasina has told her countrymen that she will return to Bangladesh soon.

She said, “My heart is crying on hearing the news that many leaders have been killed, activists are being harassed and their houses have been vandalised and torched. With the grace of Almighty Allah, I will be back soon. The Awami League has raised its voice time and again. I will always pray for the future of Bangladesh, the nation for which my great father fought. The nation for which my father and family gave their lives.”

‘Words were twisted to provoke’

Referring to the reservation movement and student protests, Hasina said, “I would like to reiterate to the young students of Bangladesh. I never called you Razakars. Rather my words were twisted to provoke you. I request you to watch the full video of that day. The conspirators have taken advantage of your innocence and used you to destabilise the country.”

‘The interim government has surrendered to the protesters’

Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajib Wazed Joy wrote on his verified Facebook page on Saturday night, August 10, “Today protesters threatened to attack the Supreme Court and burn down the house of the Chief Justice of Bangladesh. They demanded his resignation from the court and provided a list of appointments to their nominees.”

Claiming that the interim government has succumbed to the demands of the protesters, he wrote, “Judges nominated by the protesters have been appointed. How can the Supreme Court of a country be changed without any process, without an elected Parliament?”
