Indian origin woman shot in Canada, suspect arrested in murder case

A 26-year-old woman of Indian origin died in Toronto, Canada. shot dead. Giving information about the case, the police said that this attack was probably a premeditated one. A 37-year-old man of Indian origin was arrested on charges of murder.

Accused identified

The Toronto Police Service said in a statement Saturday that the shooting happened Friday morning at the intersection of Humberwood Boulevard and Rexdale Boulevard. The deceased woman was identified as Navneet Kaur, while the accused, arrested by the Ontario Provincial Police, was identified as Sharanjeet Singh of Brampton.

Woman died on the spot

Police said officers arrived at the scene of the shooting at around 7:23 a.m. and found Kaur suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite efforts to save his life, he was declared dead on the spot.

The accused ran away after being shot, later arrested

According to investigators, there was an argument between the woman and the suspect over some issue. After this the person shot him and the accused fled from the spot before the police arrived. Later he was traced and arrested.

premeditated murder

Accused Sharanjit Singh has been charged with first-degree murder and failure to comply with an undertaking (legal promise). Investigators believe the incident was premeditated and there are no other suspects. The Homicide Unit is investigating the case.

According to media reports, a witness told police that Kaur was walking on Humberwood Boulevard when a man approached her, talked briefly and then shot her once and fled on foot. Seeing the woman falling, the witness immediately called the emergency services.

Last week also a woman was murdered

The incident comes days after another Indian-origin woman was murdered by her partner in Edmonton, the capital of Alberta province, earlier this month. Last week, 22-year-old Ritesh Kumar was arrested. He was charged with second-degree murder. He is accused of strangulating his 23-year-old partner Damanpreet Kaur to death.
