Interim government chief Mohammad Yunus reached Dhakeshwari Devi temple

Muhammad Yunus Visited Hindu Temple: Amid tensions and violence with minorities in Bangladesh, Chief Advisor to the interim government Muhammad Yunus visited a Hindu temple on Tuesday, August 13. According to the Daily Star report, the Chief Advisor has visited the Dhakeshwari National Temple in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka.

During this Yunus said, “Rights are equal for everyone. We are all individuals and we have the same rights. Do not discriminate between us. Please help us. Be patient and decide later what we could do and what we could not. If we fail then criticize us.”

He further said, “In our democratic aspirations, we should be seen as humans and not as Muslims, Hindus or Buddhists. Our rights should be ensured. The root of all problems lies in the decay of institutional systems. That is why such issues arise. Institutional systems need to be improved.”

Vandalism and protests against Hindus

Last week, thousands of Hindus protested in Dhaka and Chittagong demanding protection from attacks on their temples, homes and businesses. On Saturday, August 10, Hindu protesters blocked traffic for more than three hours in Dhaka’s Shahbagh. They are demanding special courts to try those accused of atrocities against minorities, 10 percent parliamentary seats for minorities and a minority protection law.

Yunus had described the crimes against Hindus as heinous

Yunus had condemned the attacks on minority communities in the violence-hit country, calling them “heinous” and urged the youth to protect all Hindus, Christians and Buddhists.
