Zelensky wrote, ‘In Kiev, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and I paid tribute to the memory of the children who lost their lives in the Russian invasion. Children in every country have the right to live a safe life and we must make this possible.

Before paying tribute to the martyred children, Prime Minister Modi and President Zelensky discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and its consequences. President Zelensky informed Prime Minister Modi about the current situation in Ukraine. On reaching Kiev after a 10-hour train journey on Rail Force One from Poland, Prime Minister Modi was warmly welcomed at the station. After this he went to the Hyatt Hotel. PM Modi gave information about this meeting by posting several pictures on social media.

On reaching Ukraine, the Indians present there raised slogans in support of PM Modi. It is worth noting that this is the first time since the establishment of bilateral relations in 1992 that an Indian Prime Minister is visiting Ukraine. The main focus of Prime Minister Modi’s visit is to discuss a peaceful solution to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine dispute.

India is seen as playing a potentially constructive role in mediating between the two countries. Before leaving Delhi, Prime Minister Modi had said, I look forward to the opportunity to further the conversation I had earlier with President Zelensky to strengthen bilateral cooperation and share perspectives on a peaceful resolution of the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
