Police raid in South Korea’s President’s office, martial law was suddenly imposed a few days ago

South Korea News: South Korean police raided the President’s office on Wednesday (December 11). This action has been taken as part of the ongoing criminal investigation against President Yoon Suk Yeol. The President has been charged with rebellion in connection with the imposition of summary martial law. According to officials’ information, President Yoon Suk Yeol has not been arrested yet nor has he been interrogated.

Let us tell you that the Special Investigation Team has taken action against the President’s Office, National Police Agency, Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency and National Assembly Security Service in the criminal investigation case. While sharing the information, the investigation team has said that this matter is related to the security and administrative system of the country and its thorough investigation is going on.

South Korean President Yun Suk Yeol’s sudden decision to impose martial law threw the country into political chaos. South Korea’s Justice Ministry revealed that the country became unstable under martial law in just a few hours. The opposition plans to bring an impeachment motion in Parliament to remove Yun from power.

Declaration of martial law and reaction
On the night of December 3, President Yoon suddenly declared martial law and deployed special forces and helicopters to the Parliament. However, due to pressure from the opposition and MPs of his own party, he had to withdraw this order. After this, an impeachment motion was presented against Yoon, and a criminal investigation has started on his move.

Controversy over impeachment motion
Despite narrowly avoiding the impeachment motion in Parliament, protests against the President gained momentum. Despite the harsh cold, thousands of people took to the streets in the capital Seoul and demanded the removal of the President from office. Despite remaining in the presidency, Yun and his close associates are facing several criminal investigations, the main one being the charge of rebellion.

Ban on leaving the country and other checks
The Justice Ministry confirmed that Yoon is the first South Korean president to be banned from leaving the country while in office. He recently declared emergency martial law to take decisive action against North Korean-backed ‘anti-national’ and ‘communist’ forces.

beginning of political crisis
Although martial law lasted only for six hours, it created a situation of political instability throughout the country. MPs and citizens intensified their demands for President Yoon’s removal from office. The opposition filed a complaint against former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and eight other officials on charges of involvement in the rebellion. Along with this, the former Defense Minister has been arrested.
