Earthquake in Cuba: Strong earthquake tremors were felt in eastern Cuba late Sunday night. The intensity of the earthquake was 6.8. The earthquake’s tremors were so strong that buildings in Santiago de Cuba and the surrounding rural areas shook. On the incident, Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel said on Twitter that the landslide was caused by the earthquake. Houses and power lines have been damaged. We have started assessing the damage. However, our first target is to save people’s lives. Meanwhile, Reuters quoted local residents as saying that they had never seen such a terrible earthquake in their lives. He said that houses and buildings shook violently and cupboards present in the house along with utensils, glasses and vases were scattered.

Griselda Fernandez, a resident of Santiago, said that due to the earthquake, there is a possibility of heavy damage to many houses and buildings in the area, because all the places present here are old. Many pictures related to the incident are also going viral on social media, in which the roofs and windows of many houses are shown broken.

Cuban officials warned
USGS informed that the intensity of the earthquake was 6.8, whose center was 14 km inside the ground. According to the American agency, before the earthquake in Cuba, tremors of earthquake of 5.9 magnitude were felt in the nearby area. Cuban officials said more than 15 aftershocks were felt after the first two and warned locals to remain alert as more aftershocks were possible.

What should be done during earthquake?
During an earthquake, the first thing we should do to protect ourselves is to hide under a wooden table or bed in the house. Otherwise, damage may occur if any item falls. Apart from this, one should move towards an empty place in time.
