Indonesia New President Prabowo Subianto Take Oath: Indonesia’s Prabowo Subianto was sworn in as the country’s eighth President on Sunday (October 20). He will replace Joko Widodo, who had led the world’s most populous country for the last decade. The total population of Indonesia is more than 28 crores, of which 23 crores are Muslim population, which is 87 percent of the total population of the country.
Prabowo pledged to serve the Indonesian people during his oath of office. Apart from this, in his address to the nation, he said, we will keep the interests of the nation and the state above everything. On this special occasion, the country’s former Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto took the oath of office by placing his hand on the holy book of Muslims ‘Quran’.
Leaders and senior officials of more than 40 countries attended the swearing-in ceremony of Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. This includes India, France, America, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Britain, South Korea, China, Australia and other countries. During this time, 37 year old Gibran Rakabuming Raka also took oath as the Vice President. Before this he had been the mayor of Surakarta. Subianto chose Widodo’s son as the vice-presidential candidate.

Indonesia’s new President Prabowo Subianto is accused of human rights violations. According to BBC report, in the year 1990, he led a group which kidnapped many democracy activists and tortured them. About 23 people were captured, of whom some escaped, one died and 13 went missing. In the last election, Prabowo Subianto had given an inflammatory speech. However, this time he presented himself as a loving grandfather on TikTok and managed to make a place in the hearts of the youth.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Pabitra Margherita also attended the swearing-in ceremony of Indonesian President Prabowo. he prime minister Narendra Modi Congratulated both the leaders. The visit of the Minister of State for External Affairs for the inauguration ceremonies of the President and Vice President of Indonesia reaffirms the importance that India attaches to its relations with Indonesia as a close partner and maritime neighbour.
