China-Taiwan Conflict: Tension between China and Taiwan is not new, but in recent times this tension has increased again. China has started military exercises near Taiwan, which include warships and fighter jets. The exercise has been named “Joint Sword-2024B”, the purpose of which is to put pressure on Taiwan and demonstrate its military strength. Although China is calling it a test of its joint operations capabilities, in reality it is being seen as an attempt to intimidate Taiwan and suppress its pro-independence views.
China’s anger increased further after the recent speech of Taiwan President William Lai Ching Teh. When President Lai clearly said that Taiwan and China are different. China has no right to represent Taiwan. This statement was like a challenge to China, which considers Taiwan as its part. In response, China immediately activated its People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and created a blockade-like environment around Taiwan.

Many things included in Joint Sword-2024B military exercise
25 fighter aircraft, 7 naval ships, and four other ships have been seen around Taiwan in the Joint Sword-2024B military exercise organized by the Chinese side. Some of these aircraft crossed the central line of Taiwan and entered the southwestern region of Taiwan. This military demonstration by China is another attempt to intimidate Taiwan, because Taiwan considers itself an independent nation and rejects any claims of China.
Other western countries including America in support of Taiwan
With the support of America and other western countries in support of Taiwan, China has become more aggressive. This is another example of China’s aggressive policy towards Taiwan. Because of this, there is a threat to stability and peace in the region. Despite pressure from China, Taiwan remains steadfast in its independence and national identity, and its position remains strong due to international support.
