Taliban appointed a student as Afghan ambassador in Mumbai, India did not approve

Afghan Student Appointments Envoy in Mumbai: Talib means ‘student’ and the Taliban regime in Kabul has proposed the name of a student who studied in Delhi as the acting consul of the Afghanistan Consulate in Mumbai.

According to Afghanistan’s Tolo News, this student named Ikramuddin Kamil, who has been studying in India for the last seven years, has been appointed as a diplomat for the Mumbai Consulate. The incident is taking place amid a relatively peaceful diplomatic situation following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, following which India severed official ties with its neighbour.

India has not yet approved this proposal

However, this proposal of Afghanistan has not yet received approval from India. If this proposal is approved, it will be the first diplomatic appointment made by the Taliban for an Afghan mission in India after the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021.

Who is Ikramuddin Kamil?,

Ikramuddin Kamil is a young Afghan citizen who has been pursuing his PhD in International Law from the University of South Asia, Delhi in India for the last seven years. His studies are being done with the scholarship given by the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. According to Kabul’s Bakhtar News Agency, Ikramuddin Kamil is currently in Mumbai and has previously served as Deputy Director of the Department of Security Cooperation and Border Affairs in the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

What did Taliban minister say about Ikramuddin,

Taliban’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai shared information about Ikramuddin’s new role on his social media. He wrote on his X platform, “Dr. Hafeez Ikramuddin Kamil will be the new Acting Consul of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in the city of Mumbai, India.”
