The Russian government is not cancelling the contract of Indians? Know the reasons behind the delay in their release

Russia-Ukraine War: It has been more than 2 years since the Russia-Ukraine war. The process of releasing about 70 Indians serving in the Russian army is still stuck. The contract is being cited as the reason behind this. Actually, the Russian authorities have not cancelled their military service contract. People associated with this matter gave this information on Saturday (7 September).

According to a Hindustan Times report, at least 9 Indians have died fighting in the war with Ukraine. After this, the issue of releasing and sending Indian citizens working as support staff in the Russian military unit to India has become sensitive.

New Delhi and Moscow raised the issue through diplomatic channels

Prime Minister Narendra Modi The Indian government had raised the issue during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow in July. Since that meeting, the issue has been taken up through diplomatic channels in both New Delhi and Moscow. Sources said the release of about 70 Indians from the Russian army is stuck mainly because the Russian Defense Ministry has not yet taken any action to cancel their contracts. The Indian government is in constant touch with Russian officials on the issue.

The Russian Defense Ministry did not issue an order to cancel the contract

According to sources, the Russian Defense Ministry has to issue an order to cancel the contract and this has not happened yet. Another source says that the delay on the part of the Russian Defense Ministry may be due to apprehensions about the impact of such a cancellation on contracts signed by citizens of other countries.

According to information provided by the government in recent weeks, a total of 91 Indians were recruited in the Russian army. Out of which 15 have been released and sent back to India. Currently, 68 Indians are awaiting release from the Russian army.

The government is seriously considering the release of Indians: Jaishankar

At the same time, while speaking in the Lok Sabha on August 9, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had indicated the problem of the contract. He said that the problem is that Russian officials say that these Indian citizens had contracted to serve with the Russian army. We do not necessarily agree with this. Jaishankar said that the Indian side takes this matter very seriously. PM Modi has received assurances from Putin that any Indian citizen serving in the Russian army will be dismissed.

The recruitment of Indian citizens in the Russian Armed Forces was banned in April – Embassy

A day after Jaishankar’s statement in Parliament, the Russian embassy in New Delhi said that the recruitment of Indian citizens in the Russian armed forces was stopped in April this year. The embassy also expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and said that all contractual obligations and compensation payments “will be fully fulfilled”.
