Tragic accident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, 40 passengers died after the bus fell into a ditch, many

At least 40 people died and eight others were injured in a tragic road accident in the south-western part of Pakistan early Friday. The bus, which was traveling at high speed and carrying more passengers, went out of control from the highway and fell into a deep ditch. This is considered to be one of the worst road accidents in Pakistan in recent years.

The accident happened near the border of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to Balochistan government spokesman Shahid Rind, the accident occurred in the Dana Sar area, a remote area located near the border of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces. The bus was speeding and fell straight into a rocky gorge after the driver lost control.

The passengers of the second bus that broke down were also seated
The spokesperson said that not only were his own passengers in the accidented bus, but due to the breakdown of another bus, his passengers were also seated in the same bus. Due to this the bus was filled far beyond its capacity. The administration is busy identifying the dead.

President Zardari expressed condolences
Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over the accident and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased. He wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and directed the concerned officials to provide the best medical care to the injured.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti also expressed grief over the accident and directed the officials to ensure the best possible treatment for all the injured.

Why are road accidents increasing in Pakistan?
Road accidents are common in Pakistan. Its main reasons include bad roads, weak adherence to traffic rules, overloading and careless driving. The risk of such accidents increases further due to narrow and dangerous roads in hilly areas.

A big accident happened in May also
Earlier in May 2025, a minibus collided with a bus parked on a motorway in north-western Pakistan. 17 people died in that accident, while five others were injured. Such incidents happening continuously are raising serious questions on the road safety system in Pakistan.
