Turkey Work Permit: Turkey has announced new rules to meet the labor shortage in the country. This decision of Turkey will prove beneficial for skilled foreign workers and especially Indian workers. Under this new rule published in the official gazette, foreign workers will be exempted from temporary work permission for three years. These rules have now come into effect and will be enforced by the Turkish Ministry of Labor and Social Security.

But the question is who can take advantage of this new rule. Refugees and people with temporary protection will now be able to work in Turkey without a work permit. Skilled foreign workers who are contributing to Türkiye’s economy, culture or technology will be able to work for three years. Earlier the work permit was only for six months.

Impact on journalists and athletes

Foreign journalists who have a permanent press card and have received approval from the Presidential Communications Directorate will be exempt from work permits during their entire stay in Türkiye. Similarly, professional athletes, coaches, and sports staff contracted with Turkish clubs will now be able to work without a work permit.

Improvement in application processr

The new rules have also made the application process easier for foreign citizens. Previously, foreign workers had to apply for exemption within 30 days after arriving in Türkiye. Now, they can apply for exemption from work permit at any time during their legal stay.

In addition to work permit exemptions, Turkey has also launched a Tech Visa program aimed at attracting entrepreneurs and technology professionals. Under this program, work permission for three years will be given. This will encourage international talents to contribute to Türkiye’s growing tech industry. According to Turkey’s Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kasir, “We want to see 100,000 tech startups by 2030, at least 100 of which will be worth more than $1 billion.”

Growing opportunities for Indians

The number of Indian citizens in Türkiye is increasing rapidly. According to the Indian Embassy, ​​around 3,000 Indian nationals are currently living in Türkiye, most of whom are employed in sectors such as banking, technology and education. The Turkish government is also making efforts to attract Indian tourists. 350,000 Indian tourists are expected to visit in the year 2024.
