The people who were detained and kept in Ainaghar were tortured so much that they never talk about it. The prisoners do not even tell what they have suffered in this prison. Both were kept in prison in very bad conditions.

Data from Human Rights Watch’s 2024 report shows that since 2009, when Sheikh Hasina’s regime came into power, Bangladeshi forces have disappeared more than 600 people. Many of these people also died in encounters with security forces. However, many of these prisoners were released and some were able to appear in court.

Refusal of UN aid

Several reports have also claimed that Sheikh Hasina has also refused to seek the help of the United Nations to investigate the enforced disappearances. Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that in 2022, his party’s acting president and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia’s son Tariq Rahman was also forcibly put in the mirror.
