The immigration department has given 81 years time for getting a green card

A man who came to America from Secunderabad in 1996 and resides in New Jersey told TOI that I applied for my green card in 2005. For which I was given 81 years of time. Currently, I am 53 years old. He said that whenever I contact the immigration department, they postpone it citing the large number of applications from all over the world.

However, according to a report by the Cato Institute, a think tank, 34.7 million applications were filed with the authorities in 2024 alone, of which only 3% are expected to get permanent citizenship.
