Why does Pakistan celebrate Independence Day a day before India? Know the reason behind this

Pakistan became independent on 14 August 1947 and India got independence on the next day i.e. 15 August 1947. However, every year this question arises that how did the difference of one day come in the independence day of two countries which got independence together?

According to a BBC report, on August 15, 1947, India got its independence from the British Raj at the cost of two separate nations – India and Pakistan. Both countries got their independence together. However, Pakistan celebrated its Independence Day a day before India on August 14, 1947 as a Muslim-majority nation, while India emerged as a secular nation.

At the same time, another argument is given that the then Viceroy Lord Mountbatten was present as the representative of the British Government, so he could not go to Delhi and Karachi simultaneously. Therefore, he transferred power to Pakistan on 14 August and to India on 15 August. This was the reason why Pakistan celebrates its Independence Day a day before India.

What are the geographical reasons for Pakistan’s independence?

Actually, the reason behind this is the standard time of both the countries. Because, the standard time of Pakistan is 30 minutes behind India. When it is 12 o’clock in India, the clocks in Pakistan show 11.30 o’clock. It is believed that when the British government signed the Indian Independence Act, it was 12:00 midnight. That means it was 15 August in India and 11:30 pm in Pakistan on 14 August.
