Bangladesh: The political situation in Bangladesh is changing rapidly. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who resigned after the coup, has left the country and come to India. A new interim government has been formed in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, many parties have urged the interim government not to celebrate 15 August as a national day of mourning.

Many political parties including Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami recently met the new head of the Bangladesh government Muhammad Yunus. During this, they discussed many issues including conducting fair elections.

This request was made to the interim government

Muhammad Yunus was met by parties like BNP, Jamaat, Amar Bangladesh Party, Gun Adhikar Parishad, Bangladesh Jatiya Party and National Democratic Movement. During this meeting, these parties urged the interim government that 15th August should no longer be celebrated as a national mourning day. In this meeting, all the parties believed that there is no need for a public holiday on this day. The interim government of Bangladesh has not taken any decision on this.

Know why mourning day is celebrated

Every year, National Mourning Day is observed on 15 August in Bangladesh. On this day in 1975, Sheikh Hasina’s father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was murdered along with his family by army officers. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was the founder of Bangladesh. Since then, National Mourning Day is observed on 15 August in Bangladesh.

‘No need for a public holiday’

AB Party convenor Solaiman Chowdhury, who was a part of this meeting, said, ‘This is against the spirit of the Declaration of Independence.’ Apart from him, Asadjuman Fuad said, ‘There is no public holiday in these countries in memory of America’s founder Abraham Lincoln and Britain’s Winston Churchill. In such a situation, there is no need for it in Bangladesh either.’
