Bangladesh Crisis: After the coup in Bangladesh, Nobel Prize winner Mohammad Yunus has been made the head of the interim government there. After the situation worsened in Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina resigned and came to India. Regarding this, Khandaker Mosharraf Hussain, leader of former PM Khaleda Zia’s Bangladesh Nationalist Party, said, “India-Bangladesh bilateral relations do not depend only on the Awami League. It is natural for the situation in Bangladesh to deteriorate because India has given shelter to former PM Sheikh Hasina.”
‘Right time to start a new chapter between the two countries’
According to a report by news agency PTI, BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hussain said, “India is very important for Bangladesh and this is the right time to start a new chapter in bilateral relations. He has appointed the interim government of Bangladesh as Prime Minister. Narendra Modi welcomed the congratulatory message of the PM and expressed hope that India will stop supporting the Awami League and Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country after the massive uprising.
Another BNP leader Abdul Awal Mintu said that it would have been better if Sheikh Hasina had not fled to India, because people in Bangladesh are keen to maintain good relations with India. He said that Bangladesh and its people see India as a friend.
Mention of BNP rule
Mosharraf Hussain said that he had served as a minister in the Bangladesh government when the BNP was in power and the two countries (India and Bangladesh) had the best relations. BNP leader Mosharraf Hussain said, “India is very important for Bangladesh. It has constantly supported its people and expressed confidence that good bilateral relations will continue between the two countries.”
The BNP leader said that the people of Bangladesh hope that the Indian government will not always support a corrupt and dictatorial regime like the Awami League. He hoped that the interim government led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus will soon restore normalcy and democratic rights to the people.
