The last assembly elections were held in the erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state in 2014.
On August 14, an army officer Captain Deepak Singh was martyred after an encounter in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir. A civilian was also injured in this incident. Recently, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh chaired a high-level meeting on the increasing terrorist attacks and encounters in the Union Territory. This meeting was held in Delhi’s South Block with NSA Ajit Doval and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi.
Recently it was revealed that terrorists can target the highways which are considered the lifeline of Jammu and Kashmir. In view of this, the Center has decided to deploy more CRPF personnel along with the local police to patrol the highways and surrounding areas.
