The stir has intensified regarding the holding of regular elections for 9 seats of Maharashtra Legislative Council and by-election for 1 seat. The Election Commission of India has announced the program regarding this election. Voting for 10 seats will be held on May 12. Voting will run from 9 am to 4 pm and the results will also be declared on the same day. After Pragya Satav joined BJP, her seat has become vacant, for which the by-election will also be held on May 12. Pragya Satav is the wife of late Congress leader Rajiv Satav.
After resigning from Congress, Pragya Satav joined BJP. His tenure was till 27 July 2030. Mahayuti’s victory in this by-election is considered almost certain. There is a possibility of BJP making Pragya Satav its candidate again.
In the election of 10 seats, separate voting will be adopted for 9 seats and a separate process will be adopted for 1 seat. A quota of 29 votes has been fixed for 9 seats, while a quota of 144 votes has been fixed for Pragya Satav’s seat. If the winners of Baramati and Rahuri assembly by-elections vote, this quota can reach 145.
What did Harshvardhan Sapkal say?
Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal said that this issue was discussed during the Rajya Sabha elections. If Uddhav Thackeray goes to the Legislative Council again, Congress will support him. But if any other proposal comes then it will need to be discussed. He further said that Satav’s seat earlier belonged to Congress. Devendra Fadnavis had talked about political decorum (culture) at that time and Congress had also accepted it. Therefore, now the seat held by Rajiv Satav should also be given to Congress under the same political tradition.
