CBSE 12th supplementary practical examinations will be held from July 29, board issued new guidelines

CBSE Practical Exam Guidelines: The Central Board of Secondary Education has issued detailed guidelines related to practical examinations for the students appearing in the Class 12th Supplementary Examination 2026. According to the board, the supplementary practical examination will be conducted from July 29 to August 4, 2026. This examination will be held only for those students who have been placed in compartment category under Repeat Practical or Repeat Theory and Practical Both. Along with this, the board has also issued necessary instructions to schools, examination centers and regional offices related to examination conduct, appointment of examiners and uploading of practical marks. Students have been advised to contact their school or examination center in time to get information about the examination schedule.

Which students will have to give practical exam?

According to the instructions issued by CBSE, supplementary practical examination will be mandatory for two categories of students. The first category is of Repeat Practical. Students falling in this category will have to appear only for the practical examination, their theory marks obtained in the main examination will remain valid and they will not be required to appear for the theory examination again. The second category is of Repeat Theory and Practical Both. Students of this category will have to appear in both theory and practical examinations during the supplementary examination.

Where will the practical exams be held?

Practical examinations of regular students will be conducted in their respective schools. Whereas private candidates will have to give practical examinations at their allotted theory examination centres. If the required facilities for practicals of a particular subject are not available at any examination centre, the concerned CBSE regional office will conduct practical examinations for the students at a nearby school or examination centre.

Schools will not be able to appoint external examiners themselves

The board has clarified that schools will not appoint external examiners at their own level. All external examiners will be appointed by the respective regional offices, however, the internal examiner will be appointed by the superintendent of the school or examination center from among the teachers of his institution. At the same time, CBSE has instructed all the schools and examination centers to upload the marks of the students on the online portal of the board on the same day when the practical examination is conducted. The board has also made it clear that once the marks are uploaded on the portal, they will be considered final. After this, any kind of amendment request will not be accepted.

Board advice for students

The board has asked students to contact their school or examination center by July 27. During this time, he should bring a copy of his mark sheet or result and admit card, so that the date, time and venue of the practical examination can be confirmed. After this, students will have to appear in their school or examination center on the scheduled date and time.

Schools and regional offices also received instructions

CBSE has instructed schools to prepare subject-wise list of eligible students, coordinate with the regional office to ensure appointment of external examiner and inform students about the examination schedule in time. The regional office has been entrusted with the responsibility of timely conduct of practical examinations, appointment of examiners, timely uploading of practical marks and submission of answer sheets as per the prescribed procedure.
