According to the report of Business Standard, according to experts, today the reasons related to men alone or together with women are responsible for about 40 to 50 percent of infertility cases. This is the reason why fertility clinics are now rapidly expanding the facilities related to the examination and treatment of men. Along with this, India’s in-vitro fertilization market is also growing rapidly. There are more than 2,000 IVF clinics operating across the country in this industry worth about $1.4 billion. Currently, approximately 2 lakh to 2.5 lakh IVF cycles are performed every year in India. Experts estimate that by the year 2030 this number may increase to around 4 lakhs. Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities are also expected to play an important role in this growth.

According to industry experts, about 40 percent of the total income of many small and medium IVF centers comes from tests, consultations and treatments related to male fertility. According to an IVF center official in Delhi, the cost of one cycle of advanced technology like ICSI can be around Rs 1.2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh. At the same time, initial consultation, investigation and tests can also cost Rs 20 thousand or more, depending on the age and the clinic.

Is the problem increasing compared to before?

Dr. Manika Khanna, Chairperson of Gaudium IVF, says that earlier the male factor was found in one out of four couples, but now this figure has reached almost one out of three. One reason for this is increasing awareness, on the other hand, problems like low sperm count, weak movement and abnormalities in their structure are being seen more than before.

What is the reason behind increasing infertility?

Doctors say that many reasons are responsible for increasing infertility in men. Obesity, diabetes, smoking, constant stress, not getting enough sleep and working sitting for hours can affect fertility. Working with a laptop in your lap for a long time, wearing very tight clothes and the habit of sitting continuously can also affect the process of sperm formation by increasing the temperature of the testicles.

Chances of pregnancy may be reduced

Apart from this, some chemicals present in plastic, pesticides, food packaging and industrial pollution can disturb the hormonal balance of the body. At the same time, the use of anabolic steroids to increase muscle mass without doctor’s advice is also considered harmful for the fertility of men. Experts also believe that the decision to marry late or start a family late due to career and financial reasons is also affecting the fertility of men. With increasing age, the quality of sperm starts declining, due to which the chances of pregnancy can reduce.

Now, not only in metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Hyderabad, but also in tier-2 and tier-3 cities like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Bhopal, the number of people undergoing male fertility tests is increasing rapidly. Doctors say that infertility is not only a problem of man or woman, but is a matter related to both the couples.
