Banks will remain closed for 5 days next week, read the news before visiting the branch

Bank Holiday next week (13 April to 19 April): A new week is starting tomorrow i.e. from 13th April. Banks are going to remain closed for several days during this period. In such a situation, if you also have to complete any important work related to the bank, then this news is important for you. Next week, banks are going to remain closed on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, Sankranti, Tamil New Year and Pohela Boishakh (Bengali New Year).

The weekly holiday of Sunday is also included in the bank holidays for the week starting from 13th April. Unless a specific public or regional bank holiday is declared, banks are generally open on the first, third and fifth Saturday of every month. Since Saturday of next week is the third Saturday of the month, banks will remain open for business across India.

When and where will banks remain closed next week?

  • 13 April- Banks will remain closed in Punjab, Haryana, Assam and other northern states on the occasion of Baisakhi/Bihu.
  • 14 April-AThere will be holidays almost all over India due to Ambedkar Jayanti/Tamil New Year/Vishu.
  • 15th April- Banks will remain closed in West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Himachal Pradesh on the occasion of Bengali New Year or Poila Boishakh.
  • 16 April- Due to Bohag Bihu, bank operations will remain halted in Assam.
  • 19 April- Banks will remain closed across the country on Sunday due to weekly holiday.

The thing to keep in mind here is that the government has declared 14th April as a national holiday on Ambedkar Jayanti, hence schools, colleges and government offices are going to remain closed across the country.

Bank holidays as per RBI

RBI divides all bank holidays into three parts – Negotiable Instruments Act, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays and bank account closing days. According to the RBI bank holidays calendar, bank holidays vary from region to region depending on the festivals and customs celebrated there. However, all banks remain closed on national festivals like Republic Day and Gandhi Jayanti due to national holidays.

Apart from general holidays, banks are usually closed on second and fourth Saturdays. The bank holiday falling on Saturday has been declared a holiday by the RBI under the ‘Negotiable Instruments Act’. This bank holiday regulates the process of issuing checks and promissory notes.

Take help of these services during holidays

You can take help of online banking during bank holidays. Apart from this, ATMs also remain open on bank holidays. This means customers can withdraw cash even on bank holidays, send money online, check their bank balance, generate mini statements and even apply for loans.
