IPL 2025 Mega Auction Unsold Players: A total of 574 players have been shortlisted for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Before the auction, all 10 teams had retained a total of 46 players, so there are still 204 slots vacant, hence only 204 out of 574 shortlisted players will be able to be sold in the auction. This simply means that 270 players are going to remain unsold in the auction. In such a situation, the question arises whether a player who is unsold cannot play in IPL matches in any way.
Can unsold players play in IPL?
Many such occasions have been seen when players who went unsold in the auction have also been seen playing IPL matches. For example, Indian fast bowler Sandeep Sharma remained unsold in the IPL 2023 auction, yet he got a chance to play for Rajasthan Royals. But how can it happen that a player has played the IPL season even after not being sold? A player who goes unsold in the auction can play in the season only when a player from the squad is not available to play due to injury or any other reason. In such a situation, that player can be replaced by another player.
Phil Salt shines despite being unsold
In IPL 2024, Phil Salt scored 435 runs in 12 matches while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders. But the truth is that no team bought him in the IPL 2024 auction. Phil Salt had made an important contribution in making Kolkata the champion. He had kept his base price at Rs 1.5 crore, but no team had bid on him. In fact, England’s ace batsman Jason Roy had withdrawn his name even before the start of the season. In such a situation, he was replaced by Phil Salt.
