Testosterone Screening After 30 : When it comes to good fitness, body strength and better physical performance, the name of testosterone hormone often comes to the fore. But by increasing its level, it is not necessary that a person automatically becomes more powerful or performs better. According to experts, the body’s capacity depends not only on testosterone but also on many other factors like right eating habits, regular exercise, genetics and overall health.
Meanwhile, America has taken a big decision keeping in mind the health and military preparedness of its soldiers. Now soldiers aged 30 years and above will be tested for testosterone every year. After this decision, the discussion regarding the role of testosterone, its deficiency and its related treatment has intensified. In such a situation, let us know how the American Army will start screening its soldiers.
Soldiers above 30 years of age will be screened every year
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced that testosterone test will now be included in the annual health checkup of all military personnel 30 years of age or older. At the same time, if soldiers below 30 years of age wish, they will be able to get this test done as per their wish. Those soldiers who are found to have low testosterone levels will be given the option of taking Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) or not.
Why was this decision taken?
According to the Pentagon, the purpose of this initiative is to detect hormone deficiency in time, maintain the long-term health of soldiers and ensure that they remain physically and mentally fit for service. Defense Minister Pete Hegseth has made it clear that the aim of this scheme is not to increase anyone’s stamina, but to bring the testosterone levels back to normal limits in those who are truly deficient in the hormone.

Is regular screening of all people necessary?
The purpose of this new plan of the US Army is to identify people with hormone deficiency. However, doctors say that regular checkup of all people cannot be considered necessary merely on the basis of age. According to experts, testosterone levels can naturally decrease with increasing age. In such a situation, hormone deficiency in a person cannot be detected by just a blood test, but for this it is necessary to do a complete examination and check the symptoms.
When should testosterone therapy be taken?
Experts say that testosterone replacement therapy should be given only to those people who are found to be deficient in the hormone after medical examination. It should never be taken as a strength enhancer or anti-aging remedy. This treatment should be done only on doctor’s advice and under regular monitoring. This therapy is not meant to increase the performance of healthy people. It should be given only when needed.
Why can taking testosterone without advice be dangerous?
Experts have warned that taking testosterone without doctor’s advice can be harmful to the body. Its misuse can affect the process of natural hormone production in the body. Apart from this, acne, infertility, increased number of red blood cells, sleep apnea, prostate related problems in men and heart related problems can also occur in some people. At the same time, taking excessive testosterone in women can cause acne, excessive hair growth on face and body, hoarse voice, disturbances in periods and physical changes like men.
