Excessive ‘fulvic acid’ found in alkaline water in Gujarat, which diseases can it cause?

One of these is “alkaline water”, which is sold as beneficial for the body. However, a news coming out from Gujarat has increased the concern of the people. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India i.e. FSSAI has taken major action after ‘fulvic acid’ and black particles were found in the alkaline water of a company in Gujarat. It was told that stock worth about Rs 31.61 lakh has been seized. After this news, people want to know what is Fulvic Acid and how much harm it can cause to the body.

What was found in the investigation?

According to the report, this case is related to Savli area of ​​Vadodara district of Gujarat. FSSAI had received a consumer complaint, only after which the company’s plant was investigated. During investigation, officials found black particles in the water bottles. Apart from this, many important information was not given on the packaging. Besides, the lab test also revealed that fulvic acid was present in the water, which is not allowed to be used in packaged drinking water as per the current rules. FSSAI further said that formal proceedings have been initiated under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006. After this, the authorities have intensified action against the company.

What is Fulvic Acid?

Fulvic acid is considered a kind of natural compound, which is found in soil, plants and some minerals. In many places it is also used as a health supplement. It is claimed that it provides minerals to the body and increases energy, but experts say that the use of any substance is considered safe only in prescribed quantity and after proper testing. If it is mixed in any food or drink without permission or in a wrong way, it can be harmful to health. For this reason FSSAI has not allowed it in packaged water.

What do Indian rules say about packaged water?

Under Indian law, if a product is sold as packaged drinking water, it is required to follow the rules set by the Bureau of Indian Standards i.e. BIS. Standards like IS 14543 for packaged drinking water and IS 13428 for packaged mineral water are applicable. According to these rules, no suspended particles, sediment or unauthorized substances are allowed in the water. This is the reason why black particles and fulvic acid found in water are being considered a serious matter. This controversy has come to light at a time when alkaline and mineral-rich water is becoming increasingly popular among urban people and is being sold as healthier than ordinary water.

The risk of which diseases may increase?

According to doctors, if any unknown or unapproved substance is mixed in water or food, it can cause stomach related problems. It may cause problems like vomiting, diarrhea, headache, stomach ache and allergy. Also, if such substances enter the body for a long time, it can affect the liver and kidneys. Therefore, experts advise that before purchasing any health product, its quality and authenticity should be checked.

Be careful while buying health products

This matter is also a big lesson for the people. Nowadays, many such products are being sold in the market, which are promoted as “healthy” and “fitness friendly”. But it is not necessary that every shining thing is safe. Experts say that while buying any packaged water or health drink, one must read its labeling, FSSAI license and information about the ingredients. If the colour, taste or smell of the water appears different, then its use should be stopped immediately. This case of Gujarat once again reminds us that even a little carelessness in health related matters can cause huge harm.
