We all know that the brain stores all our memories, that is, it is a memory device where everything is stored. However, a study has revealed that apart from the brain, some parts of the body also store memories. This may seem quite strange, but it is true.

Cells can also make memories
In this research published in Nature Communications, it has been told that many cells of the body also work to store memories. That means the cells of the body can work to create memories. Writer Nikolay V. Kukushkin of New York University, America, said that other cells of the body can also learn and form memories. Researchers found that, like brain cells, non-brain cells also activate memory genes in response to new information.

This is how the whole process happens
When brain cells detect patterns in information, they activate memory genes and reorganize their connections to form memories. Apart from this, to monitor the memory and learning process in cells other than the brain, the team has tried to find out through proteins whether the memory-forming genes are working or not.

The experiment showed that cells other than those in the brain can recognize when chemical signals, much like neurotransmitter signals in the brain, are being repeated. The team found that this process is similar to the process in the brain in which neurons become active when learning new things. It also revealed that when cells learn by taking a break, they work better, like the neurons of our brain learn more effectively when we take a break.

Research revealed
“When the pulses were given at intervals, they retained the memory genes more strongly and longer,” the team said. Kukushkin said the research shows that the ability to learn through spaced repetition is not just in brain cells. Not limited to, but all cells are doing this. In addition to offering new ways to investigate memory, this research also suggests treating our bodies like our brains for better health.
