‘World Health Organization’ said on Tuesday that last year more than 80 lakh people were suffering from TB disease. This is the highest number since the United Nations agency started tracking. TB is a type of bacterial infection that spreads rapidly in the air. It has the worst effect on the lungs. About 1/4 of the population in the entire world is suffering from TB. Its initial symptoms are visible only in 5-10 percent people.

Last year, more than 1.25 million people died due to TB.

More than 1.25 million people died from TB last year and TB is expected to reclaim its place as the world’s leading infectious disease killer after being displaced by COVID-19 during the pandemic. The number of deaths due to HIV is almost double by the year 2023.

TB is affecting these countries the most

According to WHO, TB continues to affect people in Southeast Asia, Africa and the Western Pacific. In which India, Indonesia, China, Philippines and Pakistan are responsible for more than half of the global cases.

The fact that TB still kills and sickens so many people is shocking, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in a statement. An outrageous thing, even though we have the means to prevent it, detect it, and treat it. The death rate due to TB is decreasing globally. And the number of newly infected people has started to stabilize. The organization reported that less than half of the 400,000 patients suffering from drug-resistant TB last year were diagnosed and treated.
