OBC Reservation Report Row: Controversy has erupted over the report of the National Backward Classes Commission. In the commission’s report, questions have been raised regarding the reservation of OBCs in four states (West Bengal, Bihar, Rajasthan and Punjab). While in Bengal (West Bengal) there has been an allegation of appeasement in the name of OBC reservation, in Bihar (Bihar) there has been talk of irregularities in making non-creamy layer certificate for 30 years.

In Rajasthan too, there is a problem in getting certificates made, whereas in Punjab, OBCs have been told about less reservation. The four states on which questions have been raised, opposition parties are currently in power in all those four states. This is the reason that with the help of this report, BJP President JP Nadda has accused of killing the rights of backward castes.

BJP president attacked on OBC reservation

JP Nadda said that the constitutional rights given to OBCs for reservation are being openly violated by the governments of Punjab, Bihar, West Bengal and Rajasthan. The parties talking about caste census are openly working against the interests of OBC brothers. Muslim appeasement of OBC quota is being done openly in Bengal and they are being deprived of their right of backward class.

Attacking the Bengal government, he had said that efforts are being made to give OBC certificates to infiltrators from Bangladesh and Rohingyas in Bengal. Now the question is whether the parties that raise the flag of the interests of OBCs are really killing their right to reservation. The question is also whether appeasement is being done in the name of OBC reservation and whether this politics is being done in the name of OBC for 2024. There has also been a backlash on this issue.

Counter attack on OBC reservation started

JDU spokesperson Rajeev Ranjan said that constitutional institutions are being used from the point of view of politics. It is visible from the report of the National Commission for Backward Classes that the facts have been distorted. On the other hand, RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav said that JP Nadda is making statements because these people are afraid that many like-minded parties are uniting in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and BJP’s sweep will be cleared.

“Discrimination against OBC society”

On this issue, Union Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav alleged that wherever there are governments of Congress and its so-called allies, the discriminatory policy being adopted with the OBC community is quite unfortunate. According to the decision of the Supreme Court in Punjab, 27 percent reservation should be given to OBCs, but they are getting only 12 percent. In West Bengal, OBC reservation is being given to Muslims.

AAP-Congress targeted BJP

Aam Aadmi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that wherever there are BJP governments, Dalits and backward people are not considered citizens of this country. This kind of discrimination is done. BJP ate the reservation of Dalits. Attacking the BJP, Congress MP Pramod Tiwari said that the BJP is anti-backward, that is why it only gives speeches, does not conduct caste census. Everyone should get equal rights, that is why Congress is demanding caste census. Three out of four Congress chief ministers are from OBCs.

The chairman of the commission replied on the allegations

On the allegations of the report being politically motivated, NCBC President Hansraj Ahir said that we have gone to all the states to check the status of OBCs and the reservation given to them. I myself visited 12 states. In this, we found maximum rigging in Bengal. We had also called the Chief Secretary there for talks. There is no politics in this, we have not taken the name of any party.

What did you say about Bengal?

He said that till 2009 there were 12 castes of Muslims in OBC in Bengal. By 2010, 41 more Muslim castes were added to it. After this, since 2011 till now their number has increased to 118 whereas Hindus have 61 castes. Now how did more Muslim castes come in the Hindu dominated state. We have put all the questions that have come before us. Ahir told that when I was in Bengal, I was told that a large number of Hindus have become Muslims here, but no answer was given as to their numbers and when they became Muslims.

Earlier on June 8, Ahir had said that out of 179 OBC castes in West Bengal, 118 are from the Muslim community. There is appeasement politics behind giving OBC status to so many Muslim castes. OBC reservation is not being implemented properly in Rajasthan, Punjab and Bihar.

BJP will knock the door of the court

Backward class population is the highest in the country and it is considered to be the biggest vote bank. Along with this, many parties exist with the help of its politics. BJP is going to raise the issue of OBC reservation in Bengal and Rajasthan at a big level. The opinion of the lawyers is being taken and in the next one or two days the BJP will approach the court. Based on the report of the OBC commission, the BJP is going to corner the state governments.
