Iran–Israel Conflict, Amid the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel, Iran has increased tensions in the Middle East. Amid fears of a major attack from Iran, US President Joe Biden on Wednesday (August 14) approved the sale of more than $20 billion worth of major weapons to Israel. This includes new F-15 fighter jets and thousands of tanks and mortar shells. The deal comes at a time when Biden pressured Israel and Hamas for a ceasefire after 10 months of war.
According to the New York Post report, the weapons will take several years to reach Israel. Under this, a large number of fighter planes, air-to-air missiles, tank ammunition and other war weapons will be sent to Israel, as the chances of conflict in the Middle East are increasing.
America stands with Israel
The US State Department says that America stands with Israel for its security. In such a situation, helping Israel develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability is important for American interests. It is believed that this announcement of America is very special, because it has given support to Israel amid increased tension in the region.
It will take many years for Israel to get these weapons
The US State Department said that unfortunately Israel will not get these weapons soon, as it will take several years to complete this deal. In such a situation, the country can expect new weapon systems by 2026 at the earliest. The purpose of which is to help Israel secure itself and expand its military capabilities in the future. Israeli officials have said that the announcement is a big message to Iran and Hezbollah, as they keep threatening to attack Israel.
Know which weapons will America give?
The weapons being sent to Israel include 50 lethal F-15 fighter jets and related equipment worth $19 billion. However, the F-15s will take years to build and are not expected to reach the Middle East before 2029. 30 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles known as “AMRAAM” for fighter jets cost $102 million, while tank cartridges cost about $775 million and vehicles cost about $583 million.
Why did the Biden administration take the decision?
The incident comes at a time when the Biden-Harris administration blocked at least one shipment of weapons headed to Israel over fears that the US might use weapons to attack Israel. The Biden administration has had to balance its support for Israel with public outrage over the growing number of civilian deaths in Gaza, which Israel invaded last October after a surprise attack by Hamas.
