Maharashtra News: A 3-year-old girl and her mother died in a road-rage incident in Latur, Maharashtra. At the same time, the woman’s husband and six-year-old son were injured. A case of murder has been registered against five accused in the car in connection with the incident. The incident is said to have taken place on 29th September.
According to the victim, the accused in the car chased his bike for about five kilometers. After this they were hit, the car riders also used religious abuses before hitting them.
Sadiq Shaikh, 35, who was injured in the accident, says that before hitting him, the accused said that Muslims should be taught a lesson. According to a report in The Indian Express, a case of murder has been registered against the accused after the intervention of lawyers and activists.
Car riders hit
On the evening of 29 September, Sadiq Shaikh was returning with his wife Iqra, 6-year-old son Ahad and three-year-old daughter Nadia after meeting his sister in Ausa. During this time a car suddenly came in front of his bike. According to Sheikh, the people in the car were drinking alcohol. They argued with him after which Shaikh again continued riding the bike. The youth in the car chased them and hit them near Budhada village.
Death of woman and her daughter
Iqra and Nadia died in the accident. Sheikh and Ahad were admitted to a hospital in Latur. The family initially thought it was an accident but when Sheikh regained consciousness, he told his brother that he was targeted because of his religion. Before the accident, he had an argument with the car riders.
His wife was wearing a burqa. Therefore, the accused abused him religiously and asked him to teach a lesson to Muslims. After this, on his wife’s request, he went away, but after chasing him for about 5 kilometers, he hit the bike.
All five accused arrested
There is no mention of alleged religious insult in the FIR registered against the accused. After the incident, the five accused Digambar Pandole, Krishna Wagh, Basavaraj Dhotre, Manoj Mane and Mudame were caught by local residents. A video of one of the accused has also surfaced in which he is talking about deliberately running the vehicle over the family.
The victim’s family and their lawyer allege that the police was trying to show the incident as a normal incident. Following the complaint of Qazi and community workers, a case of murder has been registered against the accused. The five accused have been sent to police custody for three days.
