Jharkhand Rajya Sabha elections tomorrow: 3 candidates on 2 seats, JMM’s victory certain, tough competition on the second seat

Just before the voting for two Rajya Sabha seats in Jharkhand, the political turmoil has reached its peak. In this sequence, a very important and high-profile meeting of the MLAs of the Grand Alliance (India Alliance) was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Hemant Soren at the Chief Minister’s residence in Ranchi. In this meeting, along with all the big leaders of the Grand Alliance, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Baijnath Ram and Congress candidate Pranab Jha were also mainly present.

The main objective of this meeting was to completely eliminate the possibility of any technical or administrative lapse on the day of voting. During the meeting, all the MLAs of the Grand Alliance were given rigorous practice of ‘Mock Poll’. Especially to the new MLAs, the complex voting process of the Rajya Sabha elections and the method of ‘First Preference’ voting were explained in detail, so that there is no risk of the ballot paper being rejected.

Final strategy made for victory

In this meeting held under the leadership of Chief Minister Hemant Soren, the final strategy for the Rajya Sabha elections was finalized. According to the numerical strength of the Assembly, the Grand Alliance has the strong support of a total of 56 MLAs, due to which the victory of JMM’s Baijnath Ram is considered certain. At the same time, as part of the strategy, special focus has been laid on equalization and unity of votes to ensure the victory of Congress’ Pranab Jha on the second seat.

The leaders of the Grand Alliance claimed complete unity after the meeting and said that all their MLAs are completely together and the ‘India’ alliance is going to register a historic victory on both the Rajya Sabha seats.

According to the numerical strength of the State Assembly, JMM has enough votes, hence the victory of their candidate Baidyanath Ram is considered almost certain. But the real fight is for the second seat, where there is every possibility of a close contest between Congress’s Pranab Jha and BJP-backed Parimal Nathwani.

Assembly mathematics: 28 votes needed for victory

To win a Rajya Sabha seat in Jharkhand, any candidate will need at least 28 ‘first preference’ votes.

  • ‘India’ alliance has the upper hand: ‘India’ alliance has a total of 56 MLAs in the state assembly. These include 34 MLAs from JMM, 16 from Congress, 4 from RJD and 2 from CPI-ML.
  • NDA’s claim: On the other hand, BJP led NDA has 24 MLAs. These include 21 MLAs from BJP, one MLA each from LJP (Ram Vilas), AJSU and JD (U). Apart from this, there is also an MLA of Jharkhand Democratic Revolutionary Front.

The NDA camp claims that many MLAs of the ‘India’ alliance will vote on “conscience”, while the Congress and JMM leaders clearly say that all their 56 MLAs are completely united and the ‘India’ alliance will win both the seats.

Voting will take place from 9 am to 4 pm

Jharkhand Assembly Secretary and Returning Officer Ranjit Kumar said that tight security arrangements have been made in the Assembly complex to conduct the elections peacefully. Voting will take place from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. After this, after getting the permission of the Election Commission, counting of votes will start from 5:00 pm.

Let us tell you that these Rajya Sabha seats in the state have become vacant due to the death of JMM co-founder Shibu Soren and completion of the tenure of BJP MP Deepak Prakash on June 21.
