Waqf Board Bill 2024: The Joint Parliamentary Committee was scheduled to visit Bihar on Tuesday (November 12) in the Waqf Bill case brought by the Central Government. However this tour has now been postponed. This committee was about to reach Patna under the chairmanship of Jagdambika Pal.
There was a meeting in Patna yesterday i.e. Wednesday (13 November). JPC in Patna was to discuss the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 with Sunni-Shia Waqf Board, Minority Department, Law Department and Bihar State Minority Commission.
New date for Bihar tour will be announced soon
A big reason behind postponing the tour has come to light. According to the information, assembly elections are to be held in Maharashtra and Jharkhand. Apart from this, by-elections are also to be held in many states. Many members of JPC are busy in that, hence the Bihar tour has been postponed. JPC has completed its research tour to states like Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra and Gujarat to hear the views of the parties on the Waqf Amendment Bill. Was to come to Bihar in the second phase but the study tour was postponed. A new date for the tour will be decided soon.
MPs from both party and opposition are included in JPC
Let us tell you that the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024 is related to the management and protection of Waqf properties. It can be passed in the winter session of Parliament. The bill will also prevent misuse of Waqf properties. There are total 31 members in JPC. Apart from 21 members of Lok Sabha, names of 10 members of Rajya Sabha have also been included in JPC. MPs from both the ruling party and the opposition are in this committee. Now we will have to wait for new dates for Bihar tour. It is believed that the date of the committee’s visit can be fixed any time after the by-elections in Bihar.
