Make in India spread across more than 90 countries, Rajnath Singh told how much defence production has increased?

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday (September 25, 2024) said that India’s defence production has reached Rs 1.27 lakh crore. He said that this figure is the highest ever. Rajnath Singh also informed that India is now exporting weapons and military equipment to more than 90 of its friendly countries.

Rajnath Singh posted a post on the social media platform Make in India on the 10th anniversary of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s Make in India program. In this, he said that the Indian armed forces are now using weapons and equipment manufactured on Indian soil and the country is emerging in the global defense industrial scene.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Under the able leadership of PM Modi, the government launched the Make in India programme with the aim of making the country self-reliant in every sector. He said, ‘After 10 years since then, many reforms have been done in every sector including defence. India is emerging in the defence industrial scenario of the world.’

The minister said, ‘Today, the Indian armed forces are using weapons and equipment that are manufactured on our own soil and we are also exporting defence materials to more than 90 friendly countries.’ In the last few years, the government has taken several steps to promote the domestic defence industry. Its focus has been on promoting domestic defence manufacturing and strengthening military preparedness, especially in areas located along the border with China.

India’s defence exports crossed the Rs 21,000 crore mark for the first time in 2023-24 and the Defence Ministry has set a target to increase it to Rs 50,000 crore in the next five years. India is one of the largest importers of arms globally. According to estimates, the Indian armed forces are expected to spend about US$130 billion in capital acquisitions by 2029. The government wants to reduce dependence on imported military equipment and has decided to support domestic defence manufacturing.
