Attacks on Minorities in Bangladesh and PoK: National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has condemned the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Describing this as very wrong, he said that people of all religions should be respected. He also accused the central government of maintaining silence on this issue.
Farooq Abdullah said, “This is very wrong because people of other religions also live there. They should also respect people of other religions.” He also added that the central government is not taking any concrete steps in this matter. Questioning the silence of the Centre, the National Conference President said that it is the responsibility of the government to give a strong reaction to the human rights violations taking place in India’s neighboring countries.

‘Atrocities on Muslims in Uttar Pradesh too’
Farooq Abdullah also raised the incidents happening against Muslims in Uttar Pradesh. He said, “Muslims are being tortured in Uttar Pradesh. Their mosques and houses are being demolished.” Describing it as a serious matter, he took the central and state governments to task.
‘It is wrong to target any religion’
Abdullah said that targeting any religion or community is wrong and the government should strictly stop such incidents. Incidents of violence against minorities have increased in Bangladesh and PoK for some time. Attacks on temples, burning of houses and incidents of communal tension have attracted international attention.
At the same time, in India too, questions have been raised on the atrocities against a particular religion. This comment of Farooq Abdullah has come at a time when the debate regarding the security of minorities and their rights is intensifying.
