The states of North-East India will be in trouble due to one step of Bangladesh!

India-Bangladesh Relations: India’s plan to improve mobile internet connectivity in the north-eastern states has suffered a major setback as the interim government of Bangladesh has canceled the already approved bandwidth transit agreement. Bangladesh is worried that this could weaken the country’s ability to become a regional internet hub. Bangladesh has taken this decision, but it can cause big trouble in all the north-eastern states of India.

According to the Daily Star report, Bangladesh’s internet regulators have decided to cancel the plan to act as a transit point for supplying bandwidth to the north-eastern states of India. They are worried that this could weaken the country’s ability to become a regional internet hub. Last year, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) had contacted the Ministry of Telecommunications for permission. At that time, Bangladeshi companies Summit Communications and Fiber Home had proposed to supply high-speed bandwidth from Singapore to the north-eastern region of India.

‘Bangladesh did not get economic benefit’

The plan involved routing bandwidth through the Akhaura border in collaboration with Indian telecom giant Bharti Airtel, with the aim of further increasing connectivity in the area. Earlier on December 1, the interim government had ordered the cancellation of the partnership through Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). BTRC said that Bangladesh has not got any economic benefit from this transit facility, whereas India’s digital connectivity has benefited a lot from it. However, this decision has been taken not only for economic reasons but also for many other reasons.

Why did Yunus government take this decision?

Companies like Summit Communications and Fiber Aid Home are said to be very close to former Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League. Summit Communications Chairman Mohammad Farid Khan is the younger brother of senior Awami League leader and MP Farooq Khan. Yunus government has taken this decision to reduce the influence of these companies and strengthen their position.
