Before becoming the Congress President, Mallikarjun Kharge was about to become the Chief Minister of the Congress in Karnataka in the year 2013, but Siddaramaiah, who was expelled from HD Deve Gowda’s party just seven years ago, defeated him and became the Chief Minister himself. At that time also the circumstances were exactly the same as they are today.

Even at that time there were two contenders for the post of Chief Minister in the Congress. The biggest contender was Mallikarjun Kharge himself, who was a minister in the Manmohan Singh government. While the other contender was Siddaramaiah. At the same time, the name of M. Veerappa Moily also cropped up in the Chief Minister’s race, who used to be a cabinet minister in the Manmohan Singh government at the Center.

Apart from this, Ji Parmeshwar used to be the President of the State Congress then. He was also a natural contender for the post of Chief Minister. Siddaramaiah’s journey

It has not been easy for Siddaramaiah to reach this point in the Congress, because his politics started with opposition to the Congress. He won the first assembly elections in the year 1983 from Chamundeshwari of Mysore and then he got the support of the Indian Lok Dal, whose entire politics was based on opposition to Congress and especially to Indira Gandhi. It was formed by the merger of Swatantra Party, Utkal Congress, Bharatiya Kranti Dal and Socialist Party, whose leader was Chaudhary Charan Singh.

That year, when the first non-Congress government was formed in Karnataka and Ramakrishna Hegde from the Janata Party became the first non-Congress Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddaramaiah supported him. However, this government could not last and within two and a half years, mid-term elections were held in Karnataka. Siddaramaiah had won in that election too, but then he left the Bharatiya Lok Dal and joined the Janata Dal.

Ram Krishna Hegde again became the Chief Minister and Siddaramaiah became a minister in the cabinet for the first time in that government. Along with this, he continued to occupy important positions in the Janata Dal. Despite losing the assembly elections in 1989, he was made the general secretary of the Janata Dal in 1992. In 1994, when the Janata Dal government was formed again in Karnataka, HD Deve Gowda became the Chief Minister and Siddaramaiah became a minister in that government as well. Then in 1996, when HD Deve Gowda became the Prime Minister, Siddaramaiah felt that he could now become the Chief Minister.

This did not happen and he had to be satisfied with the post of Deputy CM. JH Patel, who became the chief minister, remained with Siddaramaiah Deve Gowda after the breakup of the Janata Dal in 1999 and became the state president of his party Janata Dal Secular, but as HD Deve Gowda’s son HD Kumaraswamy entered Karnataka politics and Siddaramaiah Kumaraswamy’s politics Siddaramaiah was sidelined by Deve Gowda. Showed the way out of the party. This is about the year 2005.

Siddaramaiah joins Congress

The very next year, in 2006, a press conference was held at 10 Janpath, the headquarters of the Congress, on 22 July 2006. Siddaramaiah led the press conference that day in the presence of Karnataka Congress State President Mallikarjun Kharge, former Karnataka Chief Minister Dharam Singh and senior Congress leader AK Antony.

Since that day, Siddaramaiah Khanti, who was the leader of the anti-Congress parties, became a Congressman. After this, he reached so high on the ladder of power defeating the old Congressmen that in 2013 he even became the Chief Minister of Karnataka and now after 10 years he is on the verge of repeating the same history again. While 10 years ago also he had said that this is my last election and even after 10 years after contesting two elections he said that this is my last election.
