Union minister dazzles in Cannes in ‘Vesti-shirt’, G20 logo shown with tricolor

L Murugan In Cannes Film Festival: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murugan walked the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday (May 17). Dressed in a traditional Tamil-style ‘Veshti-shirt’, Murugan led the Indian delegation at Cannes. The Union Minister said that the embroidery on the shirt was done by his local tailor.

Union Minister Murugan tweeted, “As a Tamilian, I am proud to attend the red carpet reception of the world famous Cannes Film Festival today wearing the traditional symbol of Tamil Veshti-shirt.” The national flag was on the left side of his shirt. The G20 logo was on the right side of his shirt.

What did L Murugan say?

Sharing a video from the film festival, the minister highlighted the importance of wearing a traditional outfit adorned with the national flag, especially at a time when India is leading the G20 summit. He said that I am very proud of the tricolor on my chest. Because we are doing so many events under the G20 and showcasing our heritage, it is only fitting that we let the world know about it.

Guneet Monga was also included in the delegation.

The Indian delegation at the Cannes Film Festival also included filmmaker Guneet Monga, who won an Oscar this year for her documentary ‘The Elephant Whispers’. Guneet chose a beautiful golden colored saree for the occasion. Murugan had also participated in this program last year. Then India was honored as ‘Country of Honor’.

Cannes Film Festival is held every year in France. It provides a platform to showcase documentaries and films from around the world. This year the festival is celebrating its 76th edition, which is happening from 16th to 27th May. Many Indian celebrities including Miss World Manushi Chillar, actress Sara Ali Khan, Esha Gupta have spread their wings in this program so far.
