Solicitor General of India: The Central Government has re-appointed Tushar Mehta as the Solicitor General. The Center issued a notice on Friday (June 30) saying that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the re-appointment of Tushar Mehta as the Solicitor General. They will hold office for a period of three years or until further orders.
In October 2018, the Central Government appointed the then Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta as the Solicitor General. In June 2020, the Center reappointed him as the Solicitor General for a period of three years with effect from 1 July 2020.
These people will remain on the post of Additional Solicitor General
The Center issued a notice saying that Vikramjit Banerjee, KM Nataraj, Balbir Singh, SV Raju, N Venkataraman and Aishwarya Bhati have been reappointed as Additional Solicitors General. The tenure of Madhavi Divan, Sanjay Jain and Jayant K Sood as Additional Solicitors General has ended.
Who is Tushar Mehta?
Tushar Mehta holds a law degree from Gujarat University. He has also received an honorary doctorate from the Karnataka State Law University. Tushar Mehta started his career as an advocate in 1987 and was designated as a senior advocate by the Gujarat High Court in 2007 at the age of 42.
He was appointed as Additional Advocate General in 2008. Tushar Mehta was appointed as the Additional Solicitor General of India in 2014. After this Mehta was appointed as the Solicitor General of India in 2018.
