Vinesh Phogat enters the finals, India’s fourth medal confirmed at Paris Olympics

Vinesh Phogat Wrestling Final: India’s star wrestler Vinesh Phogat has made it to the finals of the women’s wrestling 50 kg weight category by defeating Cuba’s Usnelis 5-0. With this, Vinesh is now eligible to win at least a silver medal. Vinesh will be the first Indian female wrestler to play the Olympic final in the 128-year history of the Olympics. The Cuban wrestler was seen struggling in front of Vinesh and could not score a single point in response. Now in the final, Vinesh will face USA wrestler Sarah Ann Hildebrandt on August 7.

In the first round of 3 minutes, Vinesh had a 1-0 lead. In the second round, Vinesh scored 4 more points by doing a good takedown. The defensive skills of the Indian wrestler were worth watching throughout the match. Vinesh not only showed a great defensive game but also dominated the match by counter-attacking and eventually won 5-0. Vinesh will now face Sarah Ann of USA in the final match, who won the bronze medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Vinesh Phogat would definitely like to aim for gold as she stunned everyone by defeating the defending Olympic champion in the first round itself. Vinesh defeated 4-time world champion and 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Yui Susaki 3-2 in her first round match. In the quarterfinal match, she defeated Ukraine’s Oxana Livach 7-5 to enter the semifinals.

Vinesh Phogat has now come very close to achieving a historic feat, leaving behind the disappointment of the 2016 Rio Olympics. Recall that eight years ago Vinesh made it to the quarterfinals of the Rio Olympics, but could not progress in the competition due to a knee injury.
