The central government has taken an important step towards major changes in the agriculture sector. The government has approved “National Mission on Natural Farming (NNMF)”, which has been launched with the aim of promoting chemical free farming. Under this mission, extensive efforts will be made to train one crore farmers, create common standards of natural farming and promote sustainable farming.
Objective of Farming Mission
The main objective of this mission is to make farmers aware of the importance of natural farming and train them for it. Under the mission, farmers will be taught about the techniques and benefits of chemical free farming. This is an important step towards re-adopting the old traditional methods of farming, which is not only better for the environment but can also prove beneficial for the farmers. In this mission, emphasis will be laid on increasing the productivity and sustainability of farming by making proper use of natural resources.
Help in chemical free farming
- In this mission, farmers will be given training on various aspects of natural farming. Especially those farmers who still use chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The training programs will focus on natural fertilizers, organic pesticides and traditional farming techniques.
- Another important objective of this mission is to work on scientific basis for natural farming. Under this, farmers will share farming methods based on their experiences, and through research, common standards will be developed for natural farming.
- Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said about this mission that it will work towards creating an ecosystem in which animal husbandry and farming will be integrated. That is, the products from both will be used interchangeably, which will lead to overall development of both farming and animal husbandry.
- Under the mission, steps will be taken towards sustainable and sustainable farming for a long period. For this, sustainable farming will be promoted, which will help in increasing the income of farmers while maintaining balance with the environment.
- About 30,000 Krishi Sakhis and officers will be given training at the block level so that they can make local farmers aware about the methods of natural farming and can guide them in this direction.
The Central Government has allocated a budget of Rs 2481 crore for this mission, out of which Rs 1584 crore will be given by the Center and the remaining Rs 897 crore will be contributed by the state governments. The target is to cover one crore farmers under this mission. In the first phase, a target has been set to provide training and support to about 18 lakh 75 thousand farmers.
