Actor Vijay interrogated for 6 hours in Karur stampede case, appeared before CBI for the second time

The CBI questioned Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay for about six hours at the agency headquarters on Monday in connection with the Karur stampede case. Officials said that earlier on January 12, Vijay was interrogated for more than six hours at the CBI headquarters here. He told that the TVK chief was asked to come again on January 13, but the actor had asked for another date citing Pongal.

Vijay reached CBI office in a luxury SUV on Monday morning.
According to officials, Vijay reached the CBI headquarters on Lodhi Road at 10:20 am in a convoy of luxury SUVs. Officials said that he came out of the office at around five in the evening. TVK leader CT Nirmal Kumar, present outside the CBI headquarters, told reporters that his party members are cooperating in the investigation.

A lot of rumors are being spread: TVK
Kumar said, ‘A lot of rumors are being spread, which are not true. We all know what happened in Karur. MP from Delhi had gone to Karur. Even the Tamil Nadu unit president of BJP has given accurate details of the incident that happened in Karur.

He said, ‘We are cooperating with the investigating agencies. Please do not spread any kind of misinformation. Vijay has not been called again.

What did CBI officials tell about the interrogation?
According to officials, Vijay was interrogated by a team led by a Deputy Superintendent rank officer selected from the CBI’s anti-corruption unit. He told that the TVK chief was asked many questions related to the decisions related to the rally, the reasons for his late arrival and continuing the speech, information about the chaos on the spot, the size of the crowd and the lapses in crowd management.

Officials said the decision to chargesheet the individuals will be taken only after a thorough analysis of the statements of Vijay, his senior party officials and police and district administration officials involved in granting permission for the rally and its management.

Investigation has been handed over from SIT to CBI
After the order of the Supreme Court, CBI took over the investigation of Karur stampede case from the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The Central Investigation Agency is collecting evidence related to the stampede incident that took place in Karur, Tamil Nadu on September 27, 2025, in which 41 people lost their lives and more than 60 were injured.
