Supreme Court notice on the release of Anand Mohan
The matter of the release of Bihar’s strongman leader Anand Mohan does not seem to stop at the moment. The Supreme Court on Monday heard the petition filed by late IAS officer G Krishnaiah’s wife against the release of Anand Mohan. The court, while hearing the petition, issued notice to the Bihar government and Anand Mohan. Issuing notice, the Supreme Court has asked the Bihar government to present the record of the process of release. A bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice JK Maheshwari is hearing the matter.
The next hearing on the petition will be held in two weeks.

Uma Krishnaiah in her petition has sought quashing of the order of the Bihar government. He has said that when the death sentence is commuted to life imprisonment, then the convict should be kept in jail for life. The Supreme Court has also given such a decision, but in this case the culprit was released. It has also been stated in the petition that on April 10, only for political reasons, the Bihar government changed Rule 481(1)(a) of the Jail Rules.

It has been told in the petition that the murder of a government employee was called a heinous crime in the jail manual made by the Bihar government in 2012. In this crime, there was a provision of not giving any exemption to those who got life imprisonment before 20 years, but last month, the state government changed the jail rules and put the murder of a government employee in the category of common murder.

G Krishnaiah, the then District Magistrate of Gopalganj, was murdered in 1994 at Khobra in Muzaffarpur. In 2007, the lower court sentenced Anand Mohan to death in this case. It was later commuted to life imprisonment by the Patna High Court, but was released on April 27 on the basis of having spent 14 years in jail.
