‘CM Biren Singh mastermind of Manipur violence, PM Modi…’, Congress, JDU and TMC allege

Manipur Violence: Leaders of 10 opposition parties in Manipur, including the Congress, on Tuesday (June 20) accused Chief Minister N. Biren Singh of orchestrating the violence. Narendra Modi Urged him to intervene immediately and ensure a solution to the crisis arising out of the violence.

He also said that to be held responsible are CM Biren Singh, Congress, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s JDU, Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM), CM Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamal Congress (TMC), Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s Leaders of Manipur units of Aadmi Party (AAP), All India Forward Bloc, Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena (UBT) and Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) have written to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) regarding their demands. Memorandum has been submitted.

Why was Manoj Muntashir Shukla mentioned
Opposition parties had also sought time to meet PM Modi by sending a letter through email on June 10 and then by handing over the letter to the Prime Minister’s Office on June 12. Congress leader Ajay Kumar criticized Modi for not getting time to meet the leaders of Manipur.

He claimed, “Since last June 10, leaders of many parties have been wanting to meet Prime Minister Modi on the issue of Manipur, but the PM does not have time.” BJP leaders themselves are unable to meet Prime Minister Modi, while Manoj Muntashir Shukla, who wrote lewd dialogues, had said that PM Modi met him for 45 minutes without an appointment.

He alleged that the ‘double engine’ government in Manipur has been a complete failure. Opposition leaders mentioned the developments related to the Manipur violence in the memorandum submitted to PM Modi and alleged that Chief Minister Biren Singh is the mastermind of the violence as he has taken a unilateral step.

What did you claim?
Okram Ibobi Singh claimed that KSM N Biren Singh had accepted on May 21 that there was a security lapse and intelligence failure on the part of the state government. He should be held responsible for the current crisis.

Opposition leaders urged the Prime Minister to take steps to restore peace, disarmament and ensure harmony. He said that there should be no ‘separate administration’ in Manipur and unity and territorial integrity of Manipur should be maintained.

Violent clashes broke out after the ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organized in the hill districts on May 3 in protest against the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status in Manipur. So far, about 100 people have died in this violence and more than 300 people have been injured.
