CM Himanta Biswa Sarma’s eye is on Lok Sabha elections 2024! Why made two major changes in the cabinet

Cabinet Reshuffle In Assam: Less than a year is left for the Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Meanwhile, a major reshuffle has come to the fore in the Assam cabinet. Two changes have been made in the cabinet of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. An official notice was issued by the Chief Minister’s Office of Assam. In which it has been said that CM Sarma himself has taken charge of the Department of Indigenous and Tribal Faith and Culture (except the Directorates of Libraries and Museums).

Cabinet Minister Jogen Mohan has been given additional charge of Mines and Minerals Department along with Revenue and Disaster Management and Hill Area Development. At the same time, Nandita Gorlosa, who earlier had the charge of indigenous and tribal faith and culture along with the Mines and Minerals Department, has been entrusted with the Department of Electricity, Cooperation, Sports and Youth Welfare.

Why there is talk of cabinet reshuffle?
According to a report in India Today, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma had already said that there will be no change in the state cabinet before the Lok Sabha elections next year. He further said that on completion of two years of the state government, there will be a three-day program in which MoUs worth Rs 10,000 crore will be signed with investors.

Despite CM Himanta’s claim of not making any changes in the cabinet, this reshuffle in the cabinet has great significance. It is believed that CM Sarma has made these changes in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Through which he will make himself more powerful. CM Sarma has deep penetration in all the northeastern states including Assam.

The portfolios of only two ministers were reshuffled
Nandita Gorlosa will continue to hold the charge of Directorate of Archaeology, which comes under indigenous and tribal faith and culture. No change has been made in the cabinet of other ministers of the cabinet. Apart from CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, there are 15 members in the cabinet.
