‘Yes, we made a mistake in our assessment’, Police Commissioner admitted his mistake in the vandalism at RG Kar Hospital

Kolkata Doctor Rape Murder Case: Questions are being raised on the West Bengal Police regarding the vandalism in RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and it is being termed as a failure of the police administration. On this matter, Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal said that if you want to call it a failure, you can call it that and this happens sometimes.

Speaking to news agency ANI, he said, “If you say it is a failure of assessment then yes, you can call it a failure of assessment. This entire protest should have been a very peaceful protest. This is my understanding. There was no such intelligence. We assess based on whatever is available. We deploy our resources and try to ensure that law and order is maintained. So this is not the first time assessment failure has happened, whether in Kolkata or anywhere else. It happens sometimes. There is adequate security and we are committed to it.”

19 arrests have been made in the case

At the same time, the police have arrested 19 people so far in connection with the vandalism. On Friday, the police issued a statement and gave this information. Police said, out of the 19 arrested people, five were identified through social media feedback. In the statement, the police has also requested the public to update the police about other suspects behind the vandalism, whose pictures were released by Kolkata Police on Thursday. Police said in a statement, 19 arrests have been made so far in the case of vandalism at RG Kar Hospital.

Along with the statement, the police also released pictures of five people arrested based on the response received from social media. This vandalism and disturbance was done late Wednesday night in the emergency department of RG Kar Medical Hospital, which houses the Hybrid Critical Care Unit (HCCU), Critical Care Unit (CCU), Emergency Department ticket counter and medicine store room.

‘The rioters wanted to destroy the evidence’

Sources said that medicines worth several lakhs of rupees were damaged in the vandalism in the medicine store room. Even the CCTV camera installed there was broken. Meanwhile, a section of medical students and junior doctors of the hospital have claimed that the intention of the miscreants may have been to destroy evidence. According to them, the emergency department was vandalised because the miscreants thought that it was a seminar hall which was a crime scene.
