Spice Prices in India: The effect of the 40-day long war in the Middle East and the tense situation that followed is now clearly visible on the spice market of Rajasthan. Due to increase in international shipping charges and disruption in exports, the demand for finished and raw spices in the state has decreased rapidly. Its direct impact is on farmers and traders.

Although the prices of most other goods have increased due to the war and the ongoing tension, the prices of spices produced in Rajasthan have decreased. While on one hand the common consumers are happy and have got some relief due to the reduction in the prices of spices, on the other hand the farmers and traders are worried.

Huge stock of spices accumulated

These days, huge stock of spices has accumulated in the major markets of Rajasthan. According to traders, orders from abroad have reduced, due to which goods are not able to go out. Especially a decline has been recorded in the prices of turmeric, coriander, cumin and other spices. However, chilli prices have remained stable or even increased in some places, because the production of chilli was less this time.

Experts say that many countries of the Middle East are big buyers of Indian spices. Due to war and tension, economic activities there have been affected, due to which imports have reduced. Apart from this, due to increased risk on sea routes, shipping companies have increased the fares, due to which exports have become more expensive.

Cash flow in the market also reduced

Market traders say that earlier there was regular supply of goods, now there is an atmosphere of uncertainty. Due to this, the flow of cash in the market has also reduced. Farmers are also worried about not getting the right price for their crops. In many places, farmers have to sell spices at prices below their cost.

However, this situation has brought some relief for the common consumers. The kitchen budget has reduced to some extent due to the fall in the prices of spices. But this remains a matter of concern for business people.

Demand for government intervention

Traders and farmers demand that the government intervene in this matter and take necessary steps to promote exports. Also, efforts should be made to reduce shipping costs and find new markets, so that the spice industry can be brought out of this crisis.
