Do you know what was the reason due to which Gautam Buddha left the royal pleasures and chose the path of penance. How did he attain knowledge, let us know
This is how Gautam Buddha attained enlightenment
Prince Siddhartha lived a life full of comforts but when he saw the sorrows of life, old age, illness and death, a strong desire arose in his mind to know the truth of the world. At the age of 21, Siddhartha renounced kingship and took up the life of a monk. Siddhartha did hard penance for years, but he realized that by giving so much pain one cannot attain knowledge, then he adopted another path which involved neither much enjoyment nor much sacrifice.
They bodhgaya I sat under a Peepal tree (Bodhi tree) and took a vow that I would not get up until I had the knowledge of the truth. During deep meditation, he had to face many mental problems, but he did not let his meditation get distracted and remained patient. Then finally he attained supreme knowledge. After attaining enlightenment, Siddhartha came to be known as Buddha. Buddha gave his first sermon in Sarnath which is called Dharmachakra Pravartan in Buddhist texts.
Important story of Gautam Buddha
Once Buddha was on a journey with his disciples. While walking, they reached the bank of a river. There he saw that four learned men were saying that this boat had helped them cross the river, so it would not be appropriate to leave it just like that.
One of them suggested that since this boat has been so useful to us, we should show gratitude to it. Why don’t we carry this boat on our heads and carry it along? The remaining three also agreed with this and together they lifted the boat over their heads and started moving forward.
On the way, people asked him about this strange incident. He replied that this was his way of thanking him. Buddha and his disciples were watching this entire scene. The disciples curiously asked the Buddha what was to be understood from this incident.
Buddha’s teachings- Buddha said in a calm voice that this is his own thinking, but there is a deep lesson hidden in it. He explained that we often get attracted to the things we use in life. This attachment stops us from moving forward.
Just as the purpose of a boat was only to cross the river, similarly the facilities of life are also only a means, not the goal. It is wise to leave them when their work is done. If we keep clinging to the means, how will we reach our real goal? Therefore, it is important that we use things, but do not remain tied to them, only then true progress in life is possible.
