Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi 2024: The festival of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi will be celebrated on Monday, 16 September 2024. According to the Islamic calendar, this festival is celebrated every year on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal. Like Eid, this festival also holds great significance for Muslims. That is why it is called the Eid of Eids.

Relation of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi with Prophet Muhammad

The festival of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is associated with Prophet Muhammad, the guide of Islam and the messenger of Allah. According to Islamic belief, Prophet Muhammad was born on the 12th day of Rabi-ul-Awwal (the third month of the Islamic calendar). Muhammad’s day of birth is called ‘Milad’. This is an Arabic word.

Therefore, the festival of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated with great pomp among the Muslim community and it is called Eid among Eids. However, there are different beliefs among people regarding this day. Some people believe that this day is the date of birth as well as death of Prophet Muhammad. Therefore, it is called Barah-Wafat i.e. the day of death.

On the other hand, many Muslims consider this day as the birthday of Prophet Muhammad and celebrate it as a festival. On this day, people spend most of their time in the worship of Allah, mosques are decorated, people visit dargahs, recite the Quran. Also, the kindness, compassion and teachings of the Prophet are remembered.

According to the followers of Islam, Allah sent his messengers to the earth from time to time, who are called Nabi or Prophet. Hazrat Mohammad is said to be the last messenger of Allah. The last prophet of Islam, Hazrat Muhammad, was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia in the year 570 on the 12th of Rabi-ul-Awwal according to the Islamic calendar.

It is said that Prophet Muhammad faced many difficulties to explain the importance of Islam, also endured the oppression of enemies and conveyed the messages of Allah to the people. Therefore, the day of Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi is dedicated to the life of Prophet Muhammad and his messages. Along with India, Milad-un-Nabi is celebrated in many countries like Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Russia and Germany. This day is also a national holiday in Muslim-majority countries.
