- In the story of Sawan Sankashti Chaturthi, Lord Ganesha himself had explained the method of this fast to Mother Parvati. On the day of Krishna Paksha Chaturthi in the month of Shravan, in the morning, after retiring from daily activities, one should take a vow to fast that I will remain fasting until the moon rises. I will take food only after worshiping Ganesh.
- On this day, only silver, ashtadhatu or clay idol of Lord Ganesha should be worshipped.
- Fill an earthen pot with water and install the idol of Lord Ganesha on it.
- Create an octagonal lotus shape by offering clothes on the idol of Kalash. Perform Shodashopachar puja.
- Make fifteen laddus of pure desi ghee. After offering it to Lord Ganesha, give five of them to a Brahmin along with Dakshina as per his capacity.
- Offer Arghya with devotion at the time of moonrise. Then take laddu.
